Round 3 Review – Port Hacking
Posted in Round 3 Review on 05. Mar, 2010
Sunday the 7th March saw 62 boating and 17 kayak teams head to Port Hacking for round 3 of the 2010 Squidgy Southern Bream Series. With wind and rain forecast and this being many anglers maiden fish on the system it promised to be an eventful day. Bags were weighed in by 57 teams, showing that the waterway local knowledge isn’t always a requirement for anglers to do well.
Kayak Fishing Sydney’s Carl Dubois continued his excellent form seen on the Georges River, again finishing first in the Kayak Section. Carl weighed in a 3 bream bag totaling 1.66kg, which was better than some of the boating teams managed on the day – congratulations Carl. Stewart Dunn again showed his kayak fishing prowess by finishing second with 1.51kg and gaining qualification into the grand final come October. Alan Parkinson (Parko) was delighted with his 3rd place, secured with a nice bag weighing 1.065kg.
Coming back into sterling form was the boys from Honda Marine. Steve Gill and Mark Weber weighed in a 5 bream, 3.29kg bag to see them take out first place in the boating section. They just edged out the Shimano team of Bill Karayannis and John Nikita by the smallest of margins with the Shimano team weighing in at 3.285kg to secure second place. Curst Gourmet Pizza (Ian Seeto and Chris Seeto) finished in third place with an amazing 3.265kg bag for their 5 bream. With only 25 grams between first and third the competition was definitely tight, well done to all the boys.
Crust Gourmet Pizza’s day also saw them taking out the Culburra Bait and Tackle/Hobiecat Australasia Big Bream with a 1.085kg beauty.
At the end of round 3 we see a tightly contested member’s bonus score sheet. Grant Kime (296) and Scott Brown (294) lead the race for the much coveted Australian Open entry, with Tom McLean ( 279) and Wal Balzan (274) chasing hot on their heels.
Round 4 will see us head to the Squidgy Southern Bream Series committee’s home ground of St Georges Basin on Sunday 18th April, from Palm Beach, Sanctuary Point. Entry forms will be available shortly and remember early payments are being taken and boating starting order will be based on your entry number, check out the entry form for all the details.
Until then have a safe, fun time on the water.
Cheers,
Jim
